First, the most important thing about selecting an online dating site is the type of services they offer. The general categories are: dating, committed relationship, intimate encounters, alternative lifestyle, and etc.

Online dating site’s home page usually gives a good indication of what services they offer. One way to learn more about them is to take advantage of the site tour (if available) or just log in as a guest user. So, depending on what type of service you are looking for, it should be relatively easy to weed out what you are not looking for.

Next, the site must be user friendly and have a plentiful amount of personal listings for your area. The best way to determine this is to log in as a guest user (most would let you do). Try their search tool to find potential matches in your area. If the query returns good amount of results, try the advanced search feature to narrow down the result. If you see an ad that interests you, click on it for more details. Pay attention to profiles and how long they have not been active. If most of the people you might be interested are not active more then a moth or so changes are they may not come back.

If the site is too confusing to use or your area is not very well represented, then you may want to move on to another online dating service provider.
